Easter is soon upon us and for many, it is an opportunity to dress up the kids and hide easter eggs filled with candy and toys. It is springtime and flowers are starting to bloom and the sun shines brightly. It is a time for families to get together for Sunday dinner. However, we tend to forget the true reason for Good Friday and Easter. We all know that Easter Sunday is the day that Jesus was resurrected. Good Friday is the day that we commemorate Jesus’ crucifixion. According to the Bible, Jesus had been condemned the night before for claiming to be the son of God and king of Jews. At the time, crucifixion was the highest form of criminal punishment. Jesus was beaten and forced to carry a heavy cross through jeering crowds to the top of a hill where he was nailed to the cross by his wrist and feet—where he hung until his death later that day.
To symbolize this great sacrifice, the Grayson County Ministerial Association will be hosting their annual CrossWalk on Friday, April 15th at 12 noon. The event will start in the parking lot of the Leitchfield Methodist Church (across from Sav-A-Lot) and will proceed through town—around the square and back to the church parking lot. GCMA invites everyone to come out and participate. Everyone that wishes will have the opportunity to carry the cross to experience what Jesus himself did.
