First Lady Glenna Bevin is partnering with Focus on the Family, local faith and community organizations, and state government agencies to host four joint ‘Uniting Kentucky’ and ‘Wait No More’ adoption/foster care events across the state this week.
The mission of ‘Uniting Kentucky’ is to bring together churches, people of faith, and community partners to support the more than 9,700 children across the Commonwealth who are in out-of-home care. The initiative’s three primary goals include:
• Recruiting quality foster parents to care for the needs of children in care,
• Enlisting adoptive parents for children in need of a forever family, and
• Calling the community to wrap around foster and adoptive families with support.
Focus on the Family’s ‘Wait No More’ initiative brings together agencies, church leaders, and ministry partners nationwide to educate and empower families to get involved with adoption and foster care.
This week’s events are designed to share local information and resources, facilitate connections, and present practical opportunities to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable children in foster care. At the events, attendees will have the opportunity to actually begin the foster care or adoption licensing process, and they will be directed to ways they can support those who are engaged in this work.
