Canning Demonstration Class

August 4, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

The Grayson County Extension Office will host a free canning demonstration at their new office on 64 Quarry Road in Leitchfield, on Wednesday, August 4th at 10:00 a.m., CST.  The class will be taught by Extension Agent for Family & Consumer Sciences, Natalie Taul, and is open to new and experienced canners.

Food preservation methods have changed and evolved over the years, and Natalie will teach you to use the most up-to-date processes in food preservation.  These methods will allow you and your family to enjoy high-quality garden vegetables even in the winter months.  This class will teach you the basics of two important pieces of canning equipment – the Water Bath Canner and the Pressure Canner.

  • The Water Bath Canner is sometimes referred to as the boiling-water method of canning and is the process used to preserve all high acid foods and is most often used in canning fruits, pickled vegetables, jams, jellies, salsas, pie fillings and pickles.
  • The Pressure Canner is often thought to be intimidating, but it truly is safe and simple.  This canning method is most often used to preserve non-acidic food, such as meats, soup stocks, green beans, and vegetables.
You don’t want to miss this great opportunity to attend an in-person class and see first-hand how to use the Water Bath Canner and the Pressure Canner!  To register in advance, please call the Extension Office at (270) 259-3492.
