Dalton Hayes was sentenced in a Grayson County courtroom on Tuesday on multiple charges including theft by unlawful taking, theft of a firearm and burglary.
Hayes, who was 18-years-old at the time of the offenses, was sentenced by Circuit Court Judge Robert Miller to a total of 14 years in prison after he pled guilty to all counts.
According to sentencing documents, the charges were grouped together based on the date of the offenses, with Hayes being sentenced to one year for custodial interference; six years on three counts of theft by unlawful taking (auto, firearm); and seven years for burglary, theft by unlawful taking (auto) and criminal mischief.
The sentences were ordered to be served consecutively.
A criminal trespass charge was dismissed, and Hayes was found not guilty of a rape charge (no force) in the spring.
Hayes was arrested in January 2015 on the Florida Gulf Coast after two weeks on the run throughout the southeast U.S. with his 13-year-old girlfriend. He has been in custody since February 2015.
While this concludes the state of Kentucky’s prosecution of Hayes, it is possible he could face additional charges in South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.
