A person who fell approximately 30 feet from a cliff in Hancock County has survived the tumble.
The Hawesville and Dukes Fire Departments, Hancock County Sheriff’s Office and other first responders were dispatched to the emergency Wednesday afternoon at approximately 4:00 to Jeffreys Cliff Conservation & Recreation area about four miles southeast of Hawesville.
Upon arriving at the scene, first responders found that someone fell “from one of the overlooks on the cliffs,” according to the Hawesville FD.
The subject was located by pinging his/her cellphone.
“The subject had to be brought out by first responders using an ‘off road’ style wheel chair for the first 1/4-1/2 mile then transported onto a UTV and transported to the landing zone located at the cliffs parking lot,” the Hawesville FD said in a social media post.
The person suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries and was airlifted at 5:30 p.m. to an unknown hospital.
