Four people were injured, one critically, when they took shelter under a church carport that was then struck by storm debris. Additionally, a western Kentucky church was destroyed by an apparent tornado.
Ballard County Emergency Management told WPSD.com that a possible tornado touched down in the Gage community of Ballard County, in far western Kentucky.
Four people took cover from the storm in a vehicle under a church carport. The church, though, was then struck by storm debris, causing serious structural damage to the building and injuring the four people seeking safety.
One person was critically injured while the other three victims suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Gage “sustained significant storm damage to several homes and buildings,” WPSD.com reports.
In Bardwell, in Calloway County, and only 18 miles southwest of Gage, a suspected tornado damaged grain bins and buildings. The West Kentucky Star reports that “barge tops (were) blown into trees” near Bardwell (which is less than four miles east of the Mississippi River).
In McCracken County, an apparent tornado destroyed Christ Community Church on Old Hinkleville Road, less than one mile southeast of the Barkley Regional Airport, the West Kentucky Star reports.
Farther north, in Jefferson County, the Associated Press reports a tornado touched down in Jeffersontown, as it “passed by the I-64 and I-265 interchange.”
