The Grayson County High School Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) chapter, now known as HOSA – Future Health Professionals, came away from the State Leadership Conference boasting two scholarship winners and a second-place finish in respiratory therapy.

At the March 20-22 event in Louisville:

  • Isabella Stevenson took second place in the Respiratory Therapy event.
  • Kinley Cook was awarded the Anne Vescio Scholarship for students who plan to pursue a degree in healthcare — Vescio was a key figure in the early years of Kentucky HOSA – Future Health Professionals, as she established the four-year nursing degree at EKU, and played a vital role in expanding healthcare education in Kentucky.
  • Presley Jackson was awarded the Bailey Holt Memorial Scholarship — Holt, who aspired to become a labor and delivery nurse, was killed during the 2018 Marshall County High School shooting. The scholarship was established by KY HOSA – Future Health Professionals to honor her memory and encourage members to pursue a career in healthcare.

HOSA – Future Health Professionals, founded in 1976, is a global student-led organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Department of Health and Human Services and several federal and state agencies, according to the organization’s website.

HOSA’s mission is to empower HOSA — Future Health Professionals to become leaders in the global health community, through education, collaboration, and experience. HOSA actively promotes career opportunities in the health industry and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people. HOSA’s goal is to encourage all health science instructors and students to affiliate and be actively involved in the HSE-HOSA Partnership.
