A man in Logan County has been arrested after threatening to shoot down military helicopters flying over or near his property.

The Logan County Sheriff’s Office said deputies arrested 70-year-old Daniel Draper, of Adairville, after he made two calls, one to Ft. Campbell (where the helicopter flights originated), the other to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), threatening to shoot down helicopters.

Draper, while talking to Ft. Campbell on Tuesday, stated: “If I wanted, I could take out two people in the military helicopter that was flying near my house,” according to the sheriff’s office.

In the call to the FAA on Thursday, Draper said that “he was going to shoot down any aircraft that flew over his house again,” the sheriff’s office said. In response, the FAA shut down the airspace over Logan County until the situation was resolved.

When deputies arrived at Draper’s residence in the 9100 block of Nashville Road, he admitted to making the calls but denied making threats.

Draper was arrested and charged with two counts of third-degree terroristic threatening and lodged in the Logan County Detention Center.

Adairville is approximately 45 miles from Ft. Campbell.
