An impaired Grayson County woman with a small child in her vehicle has been jailed after a motorist assisted police in locating the suspect.

The incident began on Monday afternoon at approximately 3:25 when the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to an erratic driver.

A witness said the driver in question, 62-year-old Rose M. Greene, of Falls of Rough, “would stop in the middle of the road and changed direction several time,” according to Grayson Co. Sheriff Norman Chaffins. “She would speed up and slow down and also ran off the roadway a couple of times.”

The witness also said a small child was in the vehicle.

Chaffins responded to the call and made contact with the vehicle on Duff Road.

“When I got behind her, I observed her run off the roadway and cross completely into the opposite lane at the crest of a hill and blind curve,” Chaffins said.

When the sheriff activated his blue lights, Greene drove in the center of the roadway before pulling into a gravel lot.

Upon making contact with Greene, Chaffins saw a four-year-old child in the backseat.

Greene was given a field sobriety test and “struggled to perform” the test. She was “likely” impaired by prescription narcotics, the sheriff noted.

Greene was arrested and charged with DUI (aggravating circumstances) and lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.

The child was picked up from the scene by a family member.

“Had it not been for the young motorist that followed her to give us her location it is likely that a crash would have eventually occurred, or we would not have located her due to her changing directions multiple times,” Chafffins said. “We are extremely grateful for the courage of the young lady that followed her, as she potentially saved a little girl’s life or prevented her from being injured.

“She literally gave us a play-by-play on her driving and location.”
