The Twin Lakes Skatepark project, tirelessly spearheaded by Casey Keown, announced the organization has secured 501(c)(3) nonprofit status and partnered with a renowned skatepark designer.

Nonprofit status for the organization marks “a significant milestone in our mission to bring a world-class public skatepark to Grayson County,” Keown said.

“This nonprofit status,” he added, “allows us to receive tax-deductible donations and grants, ensuring that we can move forward with funding, community engagement and construction efforts.”

Those “construction efforts” were bolstered by Keown’s announcement that the project is now partnering with Hunger Skateparks, “a full-service concrete skatepark design and build company,” according to the company’s website.

“In another major step forward, we are proud to partner with Hunger Skateparks, a nationally renowned skatepark design and build firm known for crafting high-quality, innovative, and community-focused skateparks,” Keown said. “Hunger Skateparks will work closely with us to create a design that best serves local skaters, bikers, and families.”

Hunger Skateparks has built 60 skateparks in the U.S. as well as two in Denmark, its website says.

Community input

With a skatepark designer now on board, Keown is asking for the community’s input on the Twin Lakes Skatepark design.

“As we begin the design process, we want EVERY resident of Grayson County to have a say in what this skatepark will look like and what features it should include,” Keown stated. “Whether you’re a skateboarder, BMX rider, scooter enthusiast, rollerblader, WCMX rider, or simply a community member who supports more recreational opportunities, we invite you to fill out our community survey to help shape the future of the Twin Lakes Skatepark.”

Keown, who displays profound passion while leading the mammoth project, said: “Skateparks provide a safe, healthy, and inclusive space for people of all ages to stay active, express themselves, and build a strong community.”

How residents can help

“We believe that this skatepark will be a game-changer for Grayson County, providing a much-needed recreational space that fosters creativity, inclusivity and community pride. Let’s build this together.” Keown exclaimed.
