Two people have been charged after a teenager died following a lack of treatment of injuries.
The McCreary County Sheriff’s Office on Monday responded to a residence in the 7000 block of West Hwy 92, about eight miles west of Whitley City, on the report of an unresponsive 14-year-old boy.
The teenager was transported to Wayne County Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Police noted that the teen had “serious injuries,” according to media reports.
Two people, 44-year-old Jeremy Ridner and 37-year-old Billie Jo Brolin, told deputies that they knew the boy was injured but failed to seek medical attention.
Ridner and Brolin were arrested and charged with first-degree criminal abuse and lodged in the Knox County Detention Center. Additional charges are possible, as investigators await autopsy results.
The couple’s relationship to the deceased teenager has not been released.
