A WKU student has been shot and killed after entering the wrong apartment.
The shooting occurred Sunday morning at approximately 1:00 at Covington Oaks Luxury Apartments at 1317 Scottsville Road.
The initial 911 from the apartment reported a burglary in progress.
“While officers were en route, the resident remained on the line with dispatch, reporting that someone was actively kicking the door to their apartment,” the Bowling Green Police Department said.
The person kicking the door, identified by police as 23-year-old Matthew Maggart, made entry into the apartment and was fatally shot by the resident.
The investigation showed that Maggart lived at the apartment complex.
“Evidence suggests he was impaired and mistakenly entered the wrong apartment,” according to Bowling Green police.
