An Ohio County man has perished in floodwaters.
The accident occurred on Monday morning February 17 as 44-year-old Oscar I. Villanueva was driving to work at approximately 5:15 a.m. on Parks Ridge Road, which was flooded, Ohio County Coroner Elvis Doolin told media outlets.
Villanueva never made it to work, and a missing person’s report was filed by Villanueva’s family members on Wednesday.
On Thursday, a farmer spotted the top of a car in his flooded field. The Ohio County Sheriff’s Office and Beaver Dam and Harford Fire Departments were dispatched. The vehicle was recovered but Villanueva was not found.
A boat was then launched and as first responders were searching the area, Villanueva’s body was found in a nearby wood line, Ohio Co. Sheriff Adam Wright told media outlets.
There have now been 21 weather-related deaths in Kentucky since the state was struck by three to eight inches of rain followed by heavy snowfall and then arctic temperatures.
The latest weather-related death was reported in Logan County when an 80-year-old Auburn man in a motorized wheelchair passed away from hypothermia after he became caught-up in a tree while trying to reenter his home, according to media outlets.
The man lived alone and the residence was not visible from a roadway.
