An elderly woman reported missing in eastern Kentucky has been located “caught up” in a barbed wire fence.
Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron said a 74-year-old Wayne County woman was reported missing by a neighbor Thursday morning at 8:00. The missing woman had last been seen on Wednesday afternoon but she failed to show up for dinner.
“Wayne County Sheriff Office Deputy Joe Horne and units with the Monticello Police Department began a search of the area for the female along with the reported vehicle she drives,” Catron said. “The 911 Center contacted Verizon and had the female’s cell phone pinged for a location.”
The woman’s cell phone pinged near Nancy in Pulaski County. The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office searched that area, including the National Cemetery where the 74-year-old females’ husband is buried, but she was not found. A Golden Alert was then issued.
At approximately 4:30 Thursday afternoon, the Wayne Co. 911 Center received a call from a female regarding a car parked behind her house on Spann Hill Water Tower Road.
The caller’s five-year-old granddaughter noticed the vehicle, Catron said.
“The caller also stated that she could see a female was lying in a field that was caught up in a barbed wire fence,” according to Catron.
Wayne Co. deputies, Wayne Co. Emergency Management and the Wayne Co. Rescue Squad responded and “removed the barbed wire fence” from around the woman and transported her to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
Her current condition is not known, Catron noted.
