A structure fire has claimed a life in Pike County.
Kentucky State Police said investigators were dispatched to Caney Drive in Pikeville Wednesday night at approximately 10:10 after members of the Shelby Valley Fire Department located a body inside a burned residence.
The unidentified body was transported to the state Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy and identification.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but foul play is not suspected.
Including the fatal fire in Pike County, since January 17 at least five people have perished in house fires in Kentucky.
- On January 17, 12-year-old Natalie Stacy, of Ferguson (Pulaski Co.), passed away from smoke inhalation following a residential fire on January 14 in the 400 block of Newton Street in Ferguson.
- On January 19 in Shepherdsville, Cheryl L. Peterson died in a fire on Tara Circle.
- On January 20, an unidentified person perished in a residential fire in the 8000 block of New Bowling Green Road in the Bon Ayr community in Barren County.
- On Saturday, an Edmonson County woman, 72-year-old Vanessa Thompson, was killed in a house fire in the 1500 block of Brier Creek Road.
