The man who shot and killed a Scott County deputy in May 2023 has pled guilty to the murder.
Steven Sheangshang, 47, pled guilty to 14 felony charges, including the murder of 35-year-old Scott County Deputy Caleb Conley.
He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, plus 70 years.
Sheangshang shot Conley during a traffic stop on I-75 in Georgetown on May 22, 2023. Conley was attempting to stop Sheangshang from fleeing the scene of the stop when he was shot.
Conley served four years with the Scott Co. Sheriff’s Office after serving eight years in the U.S. Army.
“Deputy Conley gave his life in service to this Commonwealth and our nation. We honor his sacrifice and stand by his family in their grief,” Attorney General Russell Coleman said. “This case should also send a clear message: As long as I’m attorney general our office will zealously collaborate with our law enforcement partners to ensure anyone who takes the life of a Kentucky law enforcement officer will face the maximum punishment.”
