Two juveniles have been charged after photographing themselves in a high school bathroom with a firearm.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said that on Saturday evening deputies received information that a firearm “had been present inside Martha Layne Collins High School.”
“Two students reportedly photographed themselves with a handgun in a bathroom,” the sheriff’s office said.
During the investigation, police confirmed the photograph was taken inside the school restroom.
Police executed a search warrant at a residence on Monday where deputies recovered the firearm seen in the photograph.
Police did not release the charge[s] the juveniles face, but bringing a firearm onto school property – unlawful possession of a weapon on school property – is a class D felony. Possession of a handgun by a minor, a charge seemingly relevant in this case, is a class A misdemeanor.
