A Leitchfield teenager has been charged with stealing a vehicle and breaking into cars.

The Leitchfield Police Department said that on Tuesday officers arrested 18-year-old Ethan Tapscott “for the theft of a motor vehicle as well as theft of contents from a vehicle.”

The arrest stems from an LPD investigation that began on Thursday when officers received reports of a vehicle that was broken into on West Market Street in Leitchfield. Also, on Thursday morning, Leitchfield PD investigators learned that Tapscott was arrested in Daviess County after being found in possession of a stolen vehicle.

“That vehicle was, in fact, stolen from South Cannon Drive in Leitchfield,” according to LPD.

From inside the stolen vehicle, officers recovered property reported pilfered by the West Market Street victim.

“Other items,” according to LPD, “were recovered that may have been stolen from other victims.” LPD is currently conducting a follow-up investigation regarding those unclaimed items.

When Tapscott was released from the Daviess County Detention Center, he was detained by Leitchfield police on Tuesday. During questioning, Tapscott “ultimately confessed to the theft of the vehicle and the incident of theft of contents from a vehicle …,” police said.

He was charged with multiple counts of theft by unlawful taking or disposition and lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.

The Leitchfield Police Department was assisted in the investigation by the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office.
