A child airlifted after a residential fire in rural Pulaski County has died.
Natalie Stacy, 12, of Ferguson, was pulled from the fire in the 400 block of Newton Street in Ferguson Tuesday morning at 11:00 a.m.
A woman in her mid-20s and a five-year-old child were rescued from the roof of the residence, the Somerset Fire Department said. Natalie was evacuated from an upstairs bedroom by the Ferguson and Somerset Fire Departments and airlifted to University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center.
The Fayette County Coroner’s Office told WKYT.com that Natalie died Friday evening due to “smoke inhalation injuries sustained in the fire.”
The fire was likely sparked by one of two space heaters in a bathroom, firefighters told the Herald-Leader. The fire, though, remains under investigation.
Natalie’s parents were at work when the fire broke out, a family friend said on social media.
Natalie was in the sixth grade at Southern Elementary School.
