A special-called Leitchfield City Council meeting, the first meeting for new council members George Hack and Tim Bocock, was held at City Hall on Tuesday afternoon.
The council voted on several issues, including rezoning requests, mayor pro tem, surplus property as well as commission and board appointments.
Rezoning request
The council heard the second and final reading of rezoning requests asking for 316 Beville Drive and 503 Decker Lane to be changed from R2 (single-family, medium density) to R2A (single-family, high density).
A public hearing was held on December 9, 2024, by the Leitchfield Planning Commission, which recommended approving the change. The council unanimously agreed (Hack and Bocock, former members of the Leitchfield Planning Commission, recused themselves from the vote).
Mayor Pro tem
“In the past what we’ve done is the person with the most votes during the election serves as mayor pro tem and I’d like to continue that with a motion to approve Clayton Miller as mayor pro tem,” Mayor Harold Miller said.
The council unanimously approved Miller as mayor pro tem.
The mayor pro tempore (shortened to mayor pro tem) acts as mayor in the absence of the elected mayor.
Surplus property
The city council voted to declare a 2011 International semi-truck previously used at the Leitchfield Transfer Station to “move trailers around,” according to Director of Public Works Wesley Shull, as surplus property to be sold govdeals.com.

GC Tourism Board: Raye Montgomery’s term on the board expires on February 1, 2025. County Tourism Director Tiffany Decker requested that Montgomery be reappointed to a new term that ends on January 31, 2028. The council agreed.
