Thanks to a U.S. Department of Education grant, Elizabethtown Community and Technical College (ECTC) will extend support to soldiers transitioning from military service to new careers and enhance an array of services for veteran, military and military-dependent students.

The $750,000 grant, to be awarded over three years, positions the college to motivate and assist veterans as they complete academic programs and enter the regional workforce. Comprehensive services include academic advising, tutoring, mental health counseling assistance and career planning. The grant also will assist the college with recruiting transitioning soldiers for ECTC’s Advanced Manufacturing Army Career Skills Program.

“ECTC is a place where veteran and military students feel welcomed and cared for, and we are very excited for new grant funding that will allow us to continue that level of student support,” said ECTC Vice President of Student Services Dr. Corina Langford. “Services include helping students through every step of the Veterans Affairs benefit process, hosting veteran student networking opportunities, coaching them through their career planning and job placement, and more.”

ECTC has earned multiple recognitions for military student service including five appearances on the Military Times Best for Vets list. Military and veteran services are important to a significant portion of ECTC’s student population, with nearly 500 students using VA education benefits during the Fall 2024 semester.

“The college is dedicated to serving the men and women who have served our country,” Langford said. “Our entire staff and faculty are committed to giving our military students and their families the best higher education experience possible.”

The college is currently seeking a Career Skills Program Coordinator to join the team. This individual will focus on the Army Career Skills Program, which provides a pathway for transitioning soldiers to pursue highly skilled, in-demand civilian careers with certificates recognized by regional employers.
