A child was airlifted after a residential fire that was sparked by a space heater.
The Ferguson and Somerset Fire Departments responded to the blaze at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the 400 block of Newton Street in Ferguson. Firefighters, while enroute to the blaze, were told there was an entrapment.
Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters found flames and heavy smoke coming from the residence.
“Crews were able to rescue a woman and child from the roof,” according to the Somerset FD, “while crews rescued another victim (a second child) from an upstairs bedroom after a primary search.”
The child rescued from the upstairs bedroom was transported to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital before being airlifted to a Lexington hospital.
Firefighters told WKYT.com that they believe the fire was electrical, as there were multiple space heaters in the residence. The fire, though, remains under investigation.
