Law enforcement in Breckinridge County is looking for a suspect accused of shooting a deputy responding to a domestic disturbance.
The Breckinridge County Sheriff’s Office and Kentucky State Police are searching for 53-year-old Julio Morales Ceballos (aka Julio Morales), according to a social media post by KSP Post 4 Public Affairs Officer Scotty Sharp.
State police initially said Ceballos was wanted after a “domestic incident” that occurred Saturday evening.
According to WXBC.com, a Breckinridge County deputy was shot at approximately 6:00 Saturday night while responding to a location on Hwy 2779 (north of Hardinsburg), which runs from Hwy 259 to Hwy 144, just south of Stephensport.
The deputy, WXBC.com reports, suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Sharp said a search for Ceballos is ongoing, as the Breckinridge Co. Sheriff’s Office and the KSP Aviation Branch “as well as other assets” are searching for the suspect.
Ceballos, who is considered armed and dangerous, stands five feet, eight inches tall and weighs about 186 pounds. He has gray hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing dark clothing.
Anyone with any information on Ceballos’ location is asked to contact the Breckinridge Co. Sheriff’s Office at 270-756-2361 or Kentucky State Police at 270-766-5078.
(UPDATE 2:45 p.m.) Kentucky State Police has confirmed Ceballos is wanted for shooting a Breckinridge County deputy in addition to two sheriff’s office cruisers.
After firing on law enforcement, Ceballos fled into a wooded area, as police continue to search for the suspect. He is wanted for attempted murder of a peace officer, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and fourth-degree assault (domestic violence — minor injury).
