A fresh layer of snow is forecast for Friday for Grayson and surrounding counties.

The National Weather Service (NWS) is forecasting between four and six inches of snow to fall on Friday, with locally higher amounts possible.

Based on future radar data available early Friday morning, the front edge of the storm should arrive in Grayson County between 10:00 and 11:00 Friday morning.

The region has been placed under a Winter Storm Warning that will last until Saturday morning at 6:00.

Snow is expected to fall until approximately 8:00 p.m. Friday, according to the NWS.

The NWS is not predicting freezing rain during this winter weather event, but the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) said that with below-freezing temperatures predicted, the snowfall is likely to create hazardous driving conditions with slick roads and bridges.

The temperature on Saturday is anticipated to reach only 32 degrees, but on Sunday, the high temperature is expected to be 38 degrees with sunshine, which should begin to melt the several inches of snow on the ground in the county.
