On Wednesday afternoon at approximately 4:15, the Leitchfield Fire Department, Grayson County Sheriff’s Office and EMS responded to the 105 mile marker of eastbound Western Kentucky Parkway on the report of a semi-truck on fire.

Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters found the truck’s cab fully engulfed in flames. The driver of the truck escaped without injury.

It took firefighters about 20 minutes to extinguish the blaze, as LFD contained the fire to only the cab of the truck.

The driver said he began to smell smoke coming from the battery compartment and pulled the truck over. Within minutes the semi’s cab was on fire.

While Leitchfield Fire Chief Tim Duvall could not say definitively what caused the fire, the driver said the semi’s battery had been changed on Tuesday.

The truck, owned by M&V Trucking, out of New Jersey, was carrying food products in a refrigerated trailer, which was not damaged in the fire.

The eastbound lanes of the parkway were briefly closed before one lane was re-opened as firefighters worked the scene and the truck was towed. The parkway was re-opened to normal traffic flow at 6:40.

There were no injuries reported and Leitchfield fire cleared the scene at 6:45.
