The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office’s is retiring its K-9 officer.
K-9 Zeus, which joined the sheriff’s office in February 2022, has a non-life threatening medical issue. Additionally, Zeus’ handler, Deputy Sean Fentress, is leaving the sheriff’s office to join the Elizabethtown Police Department.
“… It was decided to go ahead and retire Zeus when Dpt. Fentress leaves for EPD,” Sheriff Norman Chaffins said.
“Zeus was a great asset to our Office. He was responsible for removing thousands upon thousands of dollars’ worth of illegal drugs from our streets,” Chaffins said while announcing Zeus’ retirement. “He was able to locate a gun for another agency which was later found to be involved in a homicide. He found people that were lost, and he tracked and located many articles/evidence that were involved in a crime. He assisted other agencies and was responsible for hundreds of arrests in his short career as a police K-9.”
Zeus, a four-year-old East German Shephard, will live with Fentress and his family following his retirement.
“Zeus will have his forever home with Sean, Jessi and their two girls where he will still be active and happy,” Chaffins said.
The sheriff’s office, once new deputies complete police academy training, will look to purchase another K-9 officer.
