An employee at a Bardstown distillery has died in a workplace accident.
Travis Jury 41, of Bardstown, died Thursday morning after falling in a seven-story bourbon barrel warehouse (aka rickhouse) at Heaven Hill Distilleries, Inc. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
“This morning, we experienced a tragic incident at our Bardstown location that resulted in the death of one of our employees,” Heaven Hill spokesperson Lauren Newcomb said in a statement to media outlets. “We are deeply saddened by this loss and extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues affected by this tragedy. We are providing support to our employees and counseling resources are on site to support them with this profound loss. We are working with authorities during this time and will share more information as it becomes available.”
The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office issued the following statement to media outlets regarding the investigation:
“The preliminary investigation indicates a fatal industrial fall occurred involving a 41-year-old male employee. This information is preliminary in nature and no further details will be released at this time.”
Heaven Hill has a distillery operation in Louisville and a campus in Bardstown, with over 70 rickhouses at multiple locations.
The company was founded in 1935 and has over 400 employees.
