Sam Denvil Johnson, 94, of Sunny Point passed away Dec. 13, 2024 at his home.
The Edmonson County native was a proud US Army Korean War veteran who served as a machine gunner on the front lines including 120 days on Heartbreak Ridge. He was a farmer, a TV repairman and loved to sing and play the guitar and mandolin with friends who stopped by.
He was a son of the late Emmit Johnson and Lina Davis Johnson and the husband of the late Justine Velma Souders Johnson. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Stanford Johnson; and a sister, Pauline Gross.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday at Sunny Point General Baptist Church, where he was a member since being saved there in 1975, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will take place 11:00 AM-7:00 PM Saturday at Gravil Funeral Home and after 10:00 AM Sunday at the church.
Surviving are a daughter, Paula Johnson of Sunny Point; two sons, Jerry Johnson (Sandy) and Mitchell Johnson (Marilyn) both of Sunny Point; three grandchildren, Jennifer Sholar (David) of Brownsville, Brandon Hack (Marcie) of Sunny Point and Tiffany Bland (Austin) of Munfordville; five great grandchildren, Gavin Sholar, Ava Sholar, Zoey Gibson, Michael Bland and Jaxon Bland; a special friend who helped take care of him, Ray Baize; a special niece, Lisa McMackin; and a special nephew, Harold Gross.
