Despite a key team member adjusting to a broken foot, the Grayson County High School archery team posted a strong finish at a tournament at Breckinridge County High School.
The team finished fourth overall and shot a collective 3,116.
Jacob Huff, who broke his foot about a month ago, came in 24th out of 209 boys. He ranked 5th among senior boys at the tournament with a score of 268.
Huff has been adjusting to shooting while sitting down. He said the most challenging part of the injury was “aiming; it changed a lot” from his normal standing position. In spite of his injury, Huff hit a 50/50 in one round of shooting at the December 7 tournament.
In other results, Madison Overton ranked 5th of the 174 girls with a score of 278 out of 300. She scored first among tenth-grade girls at the tournament.
The top five shooters on the girls team were: Overton, 278; Brooke McKinney, 263; Gracie McCombs, 261; Jana Dickerson, 256; and Addy Porter, 228.
The top five shooters for the boys were: Huff, 268; Dax Lasley, 260; Sage Overton, 259; Aiden Day, 259; and Ethan House, 257.
The team will participate in a Butler County tournament on December 14.
