HealthForce Kentucky and Grayson County Middle School science classes are teaming up to give students hands-on experience with a variety of medical scenarios.

“A HealthForce Kentucky mobile lab hosts high-tech simulations, classrooms and labs, plus deep dives into anatomy and medical conditions, complete with pulse sensations and talking mannequins,” according to the school district.

During their time in the lab, each class concentrates on an area that relates to current classroom units. For sixth grade the focus is on population health in the immersion room; seventh graders concentrate on body systems through the touchscreen Anatomage table; and eighth grade students explore DNA strands.

“Grayson County High School health science students,” the district said, “are also volunteering their time and considerable knowledge during the visit.”

HealthForce Kentucky is a partnership between Owensboro Health, nine colleges and universities, and school districts across 16 counties in western Kentucky. Its goal is to inspire careers in healthcare by providing wider access to the highest levels of instruction, technology and training.

The Center at HealthForce Kentucky is currently under construction in Owensboro. The 35,000-square-foot facility will house high-technology simulation labs, classrooms and a medical lab. The center will be available to all participating educational entities to provide the highest level of instruction to supplement in-school programming.
