Verna Joyce Haycraft, age 82, of Clarkson, KY, passed away Sunday, (December 8, 2024) at
her residence, with her loving family at her side. She was born on May 25, 1942 in Snap, KY, the daughter of the late Charles Wesley “Charlie” and Ada Mae Hayes Williams.
She retired from the Grayson County School System, working as a bus driver. She loved children; and as a bus driver, she sang different church songs to her riders every day. Verna also worked for the school in the cafeteria. Earlier in life she helped process meat and sold Tupperware. She was a homemaker, and a hard-working farmer. Verna loved to talk and never met a stranger. She made her children’s clothes, and made quilts using feed sack strings for the quilt tacks. Verna loved to garden and can food for her family. She would save the seeds from the harvest and use them for her garden the following year. No one ever went hungry at her home. She made excellent fried apple pies and chicken and dumplings.
She married her beloved husband, Vanley Haycraft on January 1, 1961 and together they raised their children and worked hard to provide for them a loving home. She became a member of Sulfur Wells
Missionary Baptist Church in her early teenage years, and has been faithful to her faith.
She is survived by her children, Jeffery Haycraft (Gail), Jessica B. “Bonnie” Hunter, and Lisa Thomas (Phillip); grandchildren, Jeffery Allen Haycraft, Jr., (Bridgett), Jason David Haycraft (Autumn), Holly Nichole Hartlage (Daniel), Travis Vanley Haycraft (Leah), and Trevor O’Neil Newton (Amber); fourteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Virginia Rhee Armes, Carrie Wolard, Betty Jean Cain, Lizzie Faye Colmore, and Mary Mae Alvey; and several nieces and nephews.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Vanley Haycraft; infant

Evans, and Eva Higdon.
