Two passengers have been killed after an SUV sideswiped a semi-truck before striking another semi and truck.
Kentucky State Police said troopers responded to the multi-vehicle accident Monday afternoon at approximately 4:20 near the 42-mile marker of I-24 in Lyon County.
The state police investigation showed that a 2000 Honda Passport, being driven by 44-year-old Tiffany Anderson, of Hopkinsville, was traveling west on I-24 with four passengers: 52-year-old Tara Rex, of Hopkinsville, 42-year-old James Simmons, of Paducah, 49-year-old James Sanders, of Hopkinsville, and 50-year-old Brian Holt, of Cadiz.
A 2020 International semi-truck, being driven by 54-year-old Tomas Almaguer-Martinez, of Guadalupe, Mexico, was also traveling west on I-24 when, for reasons still under investigation, the Honda swerved and sideswiped the semi.
The Honda, police said, then crossed over the median into the eastbound lanes where the vehicle collided with two vehicles: A 2024 GMC Sierra, being driven by 42-year-old Tucker Heaton, of Princeton, and a 2024 Freightliner semi, being driven by 26-year-old Dipen Tiwari, of Pickerington, Ohio.
Rex and Simmons, both passengers in the Honda, were ejected from the vehicle. They were pronounced deceased at the scene.
Anderson, the Honda’s driver, was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Sanders, another Honda passenger, was transported to an out-of-state hospital with serious injuries.
The investigation is ongoing by Trooper Cody Jackson.
