One person survived an approximately 200-foot fall, while another individual survived a 150-fall at Lake Cumberland.
Russell County Search & Rescue said first responders were dispatched to “cries for help in the Low Gap area of Lake Cumberland” Sunday morning at approximately 7:20.
Upon arriving at the scene, rescue crews discovered two individuals had fallen off a cliff.
“One individual fell approximately 150 feet, coming to rest against a tree. The other individual fell an estimated 200 to 250 feet and was in critical condition,” Russell County Search & Rescue said in a social media post.
Rope rescue technicians and EMS personnel scaled the rock-face to reach both victims. A rope system was devised which transported one patient to the bottom of the rock face to an awaiting boat. The boat then transported the person to the nearest marina where the patient was airlifted to a Level 1 trauma center.
The second individual was assisted down the cliff face to another boat, which took the person to the marina where EMS treated the individual’s injuries, including an ankle injury and facial trauma.
