An Ohio County couple has been arrested after leaving their two small children at home alone while they went to work.
The Ohio County Sheriff’s Office said 24-year-old Jessica M. Aquilar and 23-year-old Julio Hernandez, both of Centertown, were arrested on Monday and charged with third-degree criminal abuse and two counts of felony wanton endangerment after deputies discovered the couple left their three-year-old daughter and five-year-old son home alone.
The deputies responded to the residence on Hwy 69 south to conduct a welfare check.
The children were removed from the home and placed into the custody of the Department of Community Based Services.
The investigation is ongoing.
