Grayson County has received a substantial grant to make improvements at the Grayson County Fairgrounds.
The grant is part of a $750,000 allocation from the Kentucky Department of Agriculture (KDA) to enhance infrastructure at nine county fairgrounds across Kentucky.
Grayson County Fairgrounds, at 1414 Brandenburg Road, was awarded $96,960 to upgrade its electrical system in the midway and arena and to install water line components, according to state Sen. Steve Meredith’s office.
“County fairs are more than just seasonal celebrations. They’re a vital part of our community’s heritage,” Meredith said. “I commend (Ag) Commissioner (Jonathan) Shell and the KDA for investing in … Grayson County. These improvements will provide a better, safer experience for all attendees and ensure that our local fairs continue to thrive for years to come.”
The grant, provided through state aid to the Local Agricultural Fairs Program, covers 75 percent of the project’s total cost, with the Grayson Co. Fair Board contributing the remaining 25 percent.
All projects are required to commence within 90 days of the award date and be completed within nine months to ensure the enhancements will be ready for the next fair season.
Butler County Fairgrounds received a $100,000 grant to support site improvements focused on drainage and power distribution, Meredith’s office said.
