An elderly Clarkson man has died in a suspicious fire.

At approximately 4:55 p.m. Thursday, the Clarkson and Leitchfield Fire Departments, Grayson County Deputy Sean Fentress, Grayson County Emergency Management Director Carey Sims, and EMS responded to the fire in the 100 block of Old Leitchfield Road on the report of a structure fire.

Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters discovered an elderly male unresponsive in the home. Firefighters immediately removed the man from the residence, but he was pronounced deceased at the scene by Grayson County Deputy Coroner James Embry (Grayson Co. Coroner Kevin Pharis also arrived on scene).

Within 10 minutes of arriving at the fire, Clarkson Fire Chief Andy Cain requested Kentucky State Police and the state Fire Marshal’s Office, as the fire seemed suspicious.

“Right now (the fire) is undetermined and still under investigation,” Cain told K105.

The blaze was contained inside the wood-frame home.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released.

Kentucky State Police and the Kentucky Fire Marshal’s Office are leading the investigation.

K105 will have more information on this story as it becomes available.
