Two Grayson County residents were injured when a driver ran a red light at a major Leitchfield intersection.

Leitchfield Police Officers Eugene Cain, Greg Whobrey and Bart Glenn, the Leitchfield Fire Department and EMS responded at approximately 9:10 Tuesday morning to the intersection of the William Thomason Byway and Elizabethtown Road.

The accident occurred when a Chevrolet Malibu was traveling north on the byway when — the female driver told police — she ran the red light at the intersection and struck a Chevrolet Spark being driven west on Elizabethtown Road by an 85-year-old male.

The impact propelled the Spark off the roadway and into a rock-filled ditch.

The driver of the Spark was extricated from the vehicle by Leitchfield firefighters along with Clarkson Fire Chief Andy Cain, who happened to be in the area when the accident occurred.

Both the female and male were transported by EMS to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center. A male passenger in the Malibu was uninjured.
