A man accused of killing his mother then setting her house on fire has been captured.

Kentucky State Police arrested 43-year-old Joseph K. Fulton, of Monticello, on Friday night.

On Friday morning at approximately 1:00, troopers were dispatched to a residential fire on Old Springs Road in Wayne County after the Monticello Fire Department discovered the body of Fulton’s mother, 64-year-old Mary J. Fulton, of Monticello, inside the home.

Joseph K. Fulton, who lived with his mother, was “missing from the scene and had reportedly made statements claiming he shot his mother and set the house on fire,” state police said.

Fulton was charged with first-degree murder and first-degree arson and lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.
