A babysitter has been charged with manslaughter in the drowning death of a toddler in Logan County.

Lindsey N. Dover, 30, of Russellville, was indicted by a Logan County Grand Jury for second-degree manslaughter and tampering with physical evidence in the death of a two-year-old girl on July 10, 2024.

As K105 previously reported, the incident occurred when the Logan County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were dispatched to a residence on Pleasant Drive in Russellville on Wednesday morning, July 10, at approximately 11:10 on the report of a missing two-year-old girl.

“Preliminary reports were the child may have wandered off into a surrounding cornfield,” the sheriff’s office said at the time.

Police, Logan County Search & Rescue, Logan County Emergency Management, and volunteers searched the cornfield and surrounding area when the child was found unresponsive “in a small body of water,” according to the sheriff’s office.

CPR was performed on the child, who was then transported to a local hospital before being airlifted to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital in critical condition. The child died later that night.

Dover is accused in the indictment of “failing to properly supervise (the child) while under her care, which resulted in (the child) drowning.”

She’s further accused of deleting “over 1,200 text messages from her cell phone before officers executed a search warrant, believing said evidence was about to be used in the officials proceeding with intent to impair its verity or availability in the official proceeding,” the indictment states.

Dover was lodged in the Logan County Detention Center but has since posted bond.

Second-degree manslaughter is a Class C felony punishable by up 10 years in prison. Tampering with physical evidence is a Class D felony punishable by up to five years in prison.

The Logan County Sheriff’s Office and Child Protective Services are leading the death investigation.
