Marcella Cummings, a radiant beacon of love and joy, was born on July 7, 1935, in Grayson County, KY to the late David Thurman “D.T.” and Tora Bea Watkins Haycraft. She was surrounded by her adoring family when she peacefully departed this life on Monday, October 28, 2024, at The Medical Center at Bowling Green.

As she made her heavenly descent, she was undoubtedly welcomed to her eternal home by her beloved late husband, Johnny Cummings, Jr., who had been her best friend and helpmate for sixty-two blessed years.

Known for her vibrant personality and a smile that could brighten the darkest days, Marcella’s warmth drew people to her. Her legacy of kindness was reflected in the genuine charity she shared with her family, church, and community. She retired after a fulfilling career as an administrative assistant with Wells Oil Company, and then embarked on a new chapter alongside her husband with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

As a cherished member of Brownsville Missionary Baptist Church, she devoted many years to teaching Sunday School and filled the choir with her beautiful voice and joyful spirit.  She was also a proud charter member of the Edmonson County Women’s Club and the Brownsville Homemakers. During this time, she fostered lasting friendships and supported local initiatives. She thoroughly enjoyed sewing and cooking, and often prepared delicious meals that brought her family together around the table. Her family brought her immense pride and happiness!

She leaves to honor her memory — her three children, Rhonda Meredith (Gary) of Bee Spring, David Cummings (Sheila) of Bowling Green, and Donna Martin (Porter) of Smiths Grove; five treasured grandchildren, Brett Meredith (Heather), Ryan Cummings (Jessica), Krista Stinson (Miles), Maci Davidson (Tanner), and Peyton Martin; eight great-grandchildren, Jackson Bley Meredith, Brooklyn, Camden, and Adam Cummings, Mav and Jax Stinson, and JoJo and Vinny Davidson, along with several nieces, nephews, neighbors, and countless friends. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Edwina Brown, Eugene Haycraft, and Laree VanMeter.

Interment will be in Brownsville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to:  Brownsville Cemetery Fund, c/o Barry Woodcock, P.O. Box 412, Brownsville, KY 42210.
