Two structures in Caneyville have been leveled by what has been determined to be arson.
Tuesday night at approximately 11:20, the Caneyville and Leitchfield Fire Departments, Grayson County Deputy Caleb Owens, Caneyville Police Chief Brandon Brooks, Grayson Co. Emergency Management Director Carey Sims, and EMS responded to two fires at 3431 Watershed Road; a wood-framed house (with what appeared to be a corner of the home made of concrete) and a nearby mobile home.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found the house and mobile home, which sat 75 to 100 feet from the house, fully engulfed in flames.
Despite a large contingent of firefighters’ efforts, both structures were leveled. The structures were surrounded by a large trees and high grass, leading firefighters to spray the areas to prevent the fire from spreading.
No one lived in either structure, and neither had electricity.
Caneyville Fire Chief Brian Pharris said the fires were “definitely arson.”
There were no injuries reported and firefighters cleared the scene at approximately 1:30 a.m.
The investigation is ongoing.
These fires mark the fourth and fifth fires in Grayson County since Friday night when a Leitchfield residence on the corner of Alexander Drive and Embry Villa Road was destroyed by a massive blaze. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, but the blaze began either in the rear of the house or on a large deck attached to the back of the home, Leitchfield Assistant Fire Chief Roy Hack said.
