An elderly father has been arrested for shooting and killing his son in Butler County.

The Morgantown Police Department arrested 81-year-old Carl Martin, of Morgantown, and charged him with the murder of his son, 49-year-old Jason Martin, of Morgantown.

According to the Beech Tree News, Carl Martin told law enforcement that early Thursday morning his son had asked him to purchase alcohol for him. The father went to purchase alcohol and when he returned to the residence, Carl Martin said his son was walking in the yard saying he had been shot.

Carl Martin told police he took his son to Butler Co. Family Care in Morgantown but the office was closed. He then took Jason Martin to nearby Smith Funeral Home to ask someone to call an ambulance.

Jason Martin was pronounced deceased at the funeral home by the Butler Co. Coroner’s Office.

While being questioned, Carl Martin’s recounting of the events was questioned by law enforcement. Then, Thursday night, police discovered evidence that led to the arrest of Carl Martin for murder.

The body was transported to the state Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville.

A mugshot for Carl Martin was unavailable.
