An eastern Kentucky man has been jailed after shooting and killing his mother.
Kentucky State Police said troopers responded to a domestic disturbance on Monday afternoon at a residence on Old Wagner Station Road in Pikeville.
Upon arriving at the scene, trooper encountered a male inside the residence who began making threats toward law enforcement. The Kentucky State Police Special Response Team was then summoned to the scene.
After several hours of negotiating, 59-year-old Alex L. Yuhas was taken into custody.
The ensuing investigation showed the Yuhas had shot and killed his mother, 75-year-old Paulette Mullins, of Pikeville, during a domestic dispute, state police said.
Yuhas was arrested and lodged in the Pike County Detention Center where he was charged with murder (domestic violence), third-degree terroristic threatening and third-degree assault (officer transporting inmate).
Kentucky State Police was assisted at the scene by the Pike County Sheriff’s Office, Coal Run Police Department and Pike County Emergency Management.
