The Edmonson County Sheriff’s Office received a grant to hire a new deputy.
The COPS Department of Justice Community Oriented Policing Services Hiring Program grant supports the addition of a full-time deputy, resulting in Edmonson County saving $125,000, according to Sheriff James Vincent.
“This program is critical for strengthening community policing and crime prevention capacities nationwide, providing vital funding to local, state, tribal, and territorial law enforcement agencies,” Vincent said.
In announcing the award, Vincent said he “acknowledges Tammi Willhite, County Treasurer, and Tyler Hopkins from the Barren River Area development District,” who collaborated with Vincent to secure the grant.
Vincent said Austin Lemieux accepted the new deputy position effective on Tuesday.
