Sen. Steve Meredith was recently awarded the 2024 Wendell H. Ford Legislative Leadership Award by the Green River Area Development District (GRADD).

“Presented during GRADD’s annual meeting, the award celebrates Meredith’s significant efforts to improve the health, safety, and well-being of residents throughout the region,” Meredith’s office said.

The Wendell H. Ford Regional Legislative Leadership Award honors elected officials at the local, state, or national level who have demonstrated exceptional service in addressing legislative issues that enhance the quality of life for GRADD’s seven-county district.

During the 2024 Regular Session of the General Assembly, Meredith, R-Leitchfield, secured increased funding for Medicaid Waiver programs, benefitting hundreds of individuals in the region.

“Receiving the Wendell H. Ford Legislative Leadership Award is an incredible honor,” Meredith said. “This award isn’t just about one person; it reflects the passion and dedication of the many people in our communities who work tirelessly to make Kentucky a better place. I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve, and I’m continually inspired by those who share a vision of a brighter, stronger future for our region.”

Meredith will officially receive the award at GRADD’s October Board of Directors meeting on Wednesday, October 9.

“Senator Meredith has been a steadfast advocate for the GRADD region,” GRADD Executive Director Joanna Shake said. “His leadership, especially in securing funding for critical services like Medicaid Waiver programs, has made a lasting difference in the lives of many. This award is a testament to his dedication to improving our communities and ensuring better outcomes for Kentuckians.”

The award was established in 2008 to honor the legacy of Wendell H. Ford, a former U.S. Senator and governor of Kentucky who dedicated his life to public service.
