A Hopkins County man has been charged after allegedly stealing over $18,000 from a woman needing her roof and fence repaired.

The Madisonville Police Department arrested 40-year-old Randall “Scottie” Brown, of Madisonville, a contractor who owns Brown’s Painting & Drywall, after he accepted $18,500 from a woman to fix her roof and fence and failed to do the work, according to a report by WFIE.com.

The money, an insurance payout to the victim, was deposited directly into Brown’s bank account. Instead of performing the work, police said Brown’s bank account showed several transactions at a casino.

Brown was charged with theft by failure to make required disposition (over $10,000) and lodged in the Hopkins County Detention Center.
