Two juveniles were shot outside a high school football game in Louisville.
The incident occurred outside the football stadium at Pleasure Ridge High School on Sunday night (the game was moved from Friday due to the residual effects of Hurricane Helene). According to WAVE.com, Louisville police responded to the high school, at 5901 Greenwood Road in south Louisville, at approximately 7:15 p.m. to assist with crowd control.
Approximately 45 minutes later, shots rang out, with police finding a male juvenile suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to University of Louisville Hospital where he’s listed in critical condition, WAVE.com reports.
Soon after, a juvenile arrived at St. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound.
On Monday, 22-year-old Damon J. Williams Jr., of Louisville, was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon on school property and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. He has not been charged with the actual shooting.
Williams told police “that he and a family member put guns behind the visitors’ bleachers because they’re ‘from (the) Victory Park neighborhood and people don’t like them,” WAVE.com reports.
Williams is being held in Louisville Metro Corrections.
Williams was granted pre-trial diversion in January after being convicted of receiving stolen property (more than $1,000, less than $10,000) and two counts of fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle, on foot), according to the Kentucky Department of Corrections. The offenses were committed in late November 2022 in Jefferson County.
