An Anneta home has been destroyed by a fire.

The Anneta and Leitchfield Fire Departments responded to the blaze Saturday at approximately 5:10 p.m. in the 400 block of Rock Creek Drive.

Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters found the mobile home fully engulfed in flames, with several nearby structures and vehicles in danger.

Firefighters battled the blaze for well over an hour, but the home was a total loss.

The resident was not home when the fire broke out, but his dog perished in the fire, despite a neighbor going to the back door of the home and trying to retrieve the animal. The intense heat and heavy smoke turned the Good Samaritan back, he told K105.

While firefighters are not certain what caused the fire the burn patterns indicate the blaze began somewhere in the middle of the residence, and was possibly due to “faulty wiring due to the age of the trailer,” Leitchfield Fire Chief Tim Duvall said.

Firefighters cleared the scene at about 6:45 p.m.
