A student has been arrested for making a threat against Breckinridge County Schools.
“We’ve made the difficult decision to cancel school tomorrow, September 19, 2024, due to a SnapChat post that could be a threat to our schools,” Breckinridge Co. Schools Superintendent Dr. Nick Carter said when cancelling classes. “After being made aware of this earlier today, our district took measures to ensure the safety of students and staff.”
On Thursday evening, Carter said a student was arrested for making the threat.
“Earlier this evening, a student was arrested for being responsible for making yesterday’s threatening SnapChat post,” Carter said.
Carter further said the school district would continue to have an “increased police presence in our schools to ensure a smooth transition back to school for our students and staff.”
Carter did not release the charge[s] the juvenile is facing, but threatening a school generally results in the suspect being charged with second-degree terroristic threatening, a class C felony.
The investigation into the threat apparently involved multiple agencies, as the superintendent, in a social media post on the district’s website, thanked the Breckinridge County Sheriff’s Office, Irvington and Hardinsburg Police Departments, Kentucky State Police, FBI, and Breckinridge County Attorney “for their assistance during this situation.”
