Hundreds of chickens, turkeys killed in semi fire near Morgantown

Hundreds of chickens and turkeys perished when a tractor-trailer caught fire on I-165 near Morgantown.

According to the Fourth Fire District Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched Sunday morning at approximately 5:50 to the 24-mile marker of northbound I-165 on the report of a vehicle fire.

The trailer of the semi was fully engulfed in flames upon firefighters arriving at the scene, according to the Fourth District. When four fire departments from the Fourth and Fifth Districts along with Morgantown and Rochester extinguished the flames, they discovered hundreds of chickens and turkeys had died in the blaze.

Firefighters cleared the scene at 11:20 a.m.
